The Oakland Athletics and the Colorado Rockies meet Sunday in MLB action from Coors Field. This matchup marks the finale in a three-game weekend series. Oakland took a three-run win in the opener, then on Saturday the A’s made it 2-0 with a blowout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Oakland Athletics
Friday’s opener was a wild affair featuring 14 team hits from Oakland. When the dust settled the A’s had an 8-5 win thanks to two RBI from both Zack Gelof and Ramon Laureano. In the game two matchup, Oakland jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings in an 11-3 blowout victory. Brent Rooker led the way on three RBI and a homer, while Seth Brown had three hits, a run and two RBI.
In the starter role for the A’s on Sunday it’ll be Luis Medina. Over his 14 games (10 starts) so far Medina is 3-7 with a 5.50 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 70.1 innings. Medina gave up one earned in 5.0 innings during a no-decision versus Houston in his last start.
Colorado Rockies
Over on the Rockies’ side, they didn’t get going on the scoreboard until late Friday and couldn’t bridge the gap. Jurickson Profar had two hits and two RBI, and Ezequiel Tovar went 2-for-5 in the loss. On Saturday Colorado couldn’t get much going after the third inning despite 12 team hits. Randal Grichuk posted three hits with a solo homer, and CJ Cron added two hits with an RBI.
As starting pitcher Sunday the Rockies are going with Ty Blach. So Far Blach has a 5.51 ERA without a decision in eight games (one start). Blach posted 3.0 clean frames with two hits and a walk in his last appearance.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with the A’s here. Medina’s main focus will be keeping the ball in the park in this matchup; he’s been doing a pretty good job of that lately. Over his last two starts combined Medina is 1-0 with one earned in 10.2 innings on five hits and four walks. The Oakland pen has been hit and miss this week, and they’ll certainly have to keep the damage minimal if the A’s want to walk away with a victory in the finale. On Saturday Oakland had a pretty stellar evening on both sides; overall there’s not much to complain about. If Medina can walk away with a quality start in this finale, I think Oakland will be in line for the sweep.
