The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies meet Monday in MLB action from Coors Field. The Diamondbacks just finished up a weekend series versus the Padres. After a split in the first pair, on Sunday in the rubber match Arizona posted a comeback win. As for the Rockies, they played the Dodgers in their last set. Arizona Diamondbacks 

The Diamondbacks took a 10-5 loss to the Padres in their Friday opener, but were able to come back in game two for a 3-0 shutout win. Christian Walker notched a homer, three hits and two RBI in the Saturday victory. In the rubber match game three, Arizona was down 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh and came back for a 5-4 victory. Lourdes Gurriel managed a two-run homer during the win. 

In the starter role Monday, the Diamondbacks will send out Merrill Kelly. This year Kelly is 9-5 with a 3.05 ERA and 120 strikeouts.

Over on the Rockies’ side, they had quite a bit of trouble with the Dodgers over the weekend. Colorado dropped the first three games in the set 2-1, 6-1 and 4-1 during an offensive drought. In the Sunday finale the Rockies were out-hit 10-5 in an 8-3 defeat. Alan Trejo was one of the few bright spots with a two-run homer on a 1-for-3 evening. 

As starting pitcher Monday the Rockies are going with Chris Flexen. In his 20 games (seven starts) so far Flexen is 1-5 with a 7.92 ERA and 39 Ks in 55.2 innings. Flexen has gone 1-1 with an 8.56 ERA over his last three starts.

I’ll probably stay with the Diamondbacks here, but mostly because of how rough the Rockies’ recent performances have been. The line’s realistically too thick to mess with, however. Colorado posted just six runs in four games over the weekend, giving up 20 on the other side. Granted, it was a difficult road matchup versus the Dodgers, but there aren’t a lot of positives to take away regardless. Flexen hasn’t been stellar lately either, with 13 earned runs over his last 13.2 frames. As for the Diamondbacks, they’ve scored 13 runs over the last three games and come into this one hot. We could very well have a high-scoring affair here on both sides, though.
