The two-time US Open finalist has exceeded all pre-tournament expectations and punched her ticket into the second week yet again after recovering from a set down to beat American Jennifer Brady. Wozniacki, who is playing her first Grand Slam since coming out of retirement, notched her first Top 20 win since maternity beating Petra Kvitova 7-5, 7-6 in the second round. Beating Coco Gauff for a spot in the quarterfinal would be an absolute dream and would send shockwaves across the tournament, so maybe the rest of the field needs to take notice.

It is an intergenerational matchup. Coco Gauff at 19 is playing a mother of two of one of the most decorated players at the 2023 US Open in Caroline Wozniacki. Both players have so many similar attributes to their game, which is built around a solid baseline game and excellent foot speed. Winning the first set will be critical here as we’ve seen both players start slow and then pick up rhythm during the match which is not something you want to mimic constantly. A sneak peek at the odds here and Gauff is the overwhelming favorite. It is hard to dispute that, she’s the in-form player at this year’s US swing and the fact she’s been able to reinvent her forehand (her weakest shot) is a testament to her dedication and pursuit of greatness. Wozniacki’s return is still in its infancy and this is where she’ll finally hit a snag.
