The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants meet Monday in MLB action from Oracle Park. The Padres just finished up a weekend series versus the Cardinals. After a split in the first pair, in the Sunday rubber match San Diego took a blowout victory. As for San Francisco, they’re coming off a set versus the Dodgers. San Diego Padres

The Padres were able to kick off their weekend series with a win over the Cardinals 4-2 on Friday. Saturday was a 5-2 loss, though. San Diego’s Xander Bogaerts and Manny Machado each had an RBI in the defeat. In the game three rubber match, the Padres bagged a whopping 18 team hits on the way to a 12-2 blowout win. Juan Soto finished with two runs, three hits, four RBI and a homer to help things along. 

It’ll be Blake Snell in the starter role for the Padres on Monday. This year in his 31 starts Snell is 14-9 with a 2.33 ERA and 227 Ks in 174.0 innings. Snell is 5-1 with a 1.43 ERA over his last seven games, striking out 56 in 44.0 innings.

In the Sunday finale the Giants took a walk-off loss 3-2. LaMonte Wade provided both RBI with a homer, and Tyler Fitzgerald had two hits with a run. 

As starting pitcher Monday, San Francisco is going with Logan Webb. So far Webb is 10-13 with a 3.35 ERA in 32 starts. He’s got 187 Ks in 207.0 innings. Webb has gone 1-4 with a 3.68 ERA in his last seven starts.

I’m going to try the Padres here. San Diego should get a pretty good lift from Snell, who hasn’t been pitching to badly over his last trio. In those three starts, Snell is a combined 2-0 with 19.0 innings, two earned, six hits and eight walks. If he can keep it rolling, San Francisco will have a tough time getting on base early. Webb should do pretty well on the other side though, so this one could be a low-scoring affair. In the Sunday finale versus the Cardinals, the Padres looked great on both sides. Seven different players had multiple hits in a much-needed offensive onslaught. I like San Diego to keep it up at the plate and win here as well.
