Breaking down the best FanDuel picks for this afternoon's Guardians vs. Tigers matchup.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Detroit Tigers

Major League Baseball presents a playoff matchup between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a FanDuel perspective.

Before we dive into the Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians game let’s review the rules for the FanDuel single game showdown contest.

FanDuel Single Game Contest Rules

Here are the FanDuel single game contest rules. You have $60,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team MVP. The MVP accumulates 2x times the standard FanDuel fantasy points value.

The remaining four players in your lineup will be one star and three flex plays. The star player will receive 1.5x the standard fantasy points value. The final three flex positions will receive the standard FanDuel points value. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your MVP position if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) FanDuel single game contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game contest, I highly recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.

*It should be noted that FanDuel does not utilize the pitcher position in single game MLB contests. Having stated that, only batters are available for single game MLB lineups on the FanDuel platform.

Here are my FanDuel picks for this afternoon’s Cleveland Guardians vs. Detroit Tigers matchup.

FanDuel MLB Player Selections

MVP-Parker Meadows, Outfielder, Detroit Tigers $7,000

On Wednesday afternoon, Major League Baseball presents the third game of an American League Division playoff series featuring the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians.

How are these two teams playing entering this afternoon’s MLB playoff game? The Detroit Tigers arrive at the third game of this American League Division series with the Cleveland Guardians playing rather good baseball. More specifically, the Tigers have won nine of the team’s last 12 games played this season, including a 5-2 victory over the Houston Astros seven days ago.

In direct contrast to the Detroit Tigers, the Cleveland Guardians have been playing below average baseball recently. The Guardians lost five of the team’s last eight games played in the 2024 MLB regular season, including a 2-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals last week.

It should be noted that the Detroit Tigers won the second game of this American League Division playoff series two days ago defeating the Cleveland Guardians 3-0.

Now that we have identified how both of these American League teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to today’s contest.

Talented Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows has certainly been a key contributor to the Detroit Tigers offense this season. Let’s review Meadows recent game data to better shed light on my previous statement.

Detroit outfielder Parker Meadows arrives at today’s American League Division series game on the heels of a five-game hitting streak. In that five-game span just mentioned, Meadows compiled six hits (one home run), two RBIs (runs batted in), three runs scored, one stolen base, and one walk in 21 plate appearances. Clearly, Parker Meadows is swinging the bat at a high-level entering tonight’s MLB playoff game.

As I noted in the rules section above, selecting the correct MVP is absolutely vital if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest. In summary, I am rolling with Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows at the MVP position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Star-Jose Ramirez, Third Baseman, Cleveland Guardians $9,500

In his last nine games played for the Cleveland Guardians this season, Jose Ramirez has tallied 13 hits (four home runs), 14 RBIs (runs batted in), and eight runs scored. I fully expect Jose Ramirez to continue his outstanding play in Detroit later today.

Flex plays I like for today’s game (FanDuel price noted): Kerry Carpenter, Outfielder (Detroit Tigers) $7,500: Matt Vierling, Third Baseman (Detroit Tigers) $7,000.
