The Jacksonville Dolphins and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Cassell Coliseum. Here’s a Virginia Tech vs Jacksonville prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Virginia Tech vs Jacksonville pick.
Jacksonville Dolphins Betting Preview
This will be Jacksonville’s fifth game so far, as they’ve hit a .500 run through the first four. The Dolphins’ opener was a 78-65 win over Trinity Baptist, then came two losses 81-60 versus Florida and 78-69 against Furman.
Matched up against South Carolina State on Thursday, the Dolphins were down 32-27 by the break. Jacksonville surged on a 44-30 run in the second, however, and pulled off the win 71-62. Tops in scoring was Chris Arias with 19 points and four boards.
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
Over on the Hokies’ side, they were able to notch victories in their first three games. Virginia Tech kicked things off with an 83-60 win over Delaware State, then beat USC Upstate 93-74. The Hokies powered out a 58-52 win over Winthrop in game three.
Virginia Tech took their first loss on Friday versus Penn State, and it was a sizable one. The Hokies were down 37-29 by halftime and limped to an 86-64 finish with a 49-35 run from there. Leading scorer Mylyjael Poteat posted 15 points with two rebounds in the defeat.
Why the Virginia Tech Hokies will win
- Virginia Tech has won each of its last 24 games against non-conference opponents at Cassell Coliseum.
- Jacksonville has lost each of its last 10 night games following a home win.
- Virginia Tech has won the first half in 23 of its last 24 games against non-conference opponents at Cassell Coliseum.
Virginia Tech vs Jacksonville Prediction
I’ll probably lean toward Virginia Tech. The Hokies are coming off a tough loss to a good Penn State team, hitting a tepid 27.8 percent from 3-point range with a whopping 24 turnovers. Virginia Tech shot pretty well themselves (44.4 percent) and had a 34-26 rebounding edge but also gave up 50.9 percent shooting on the other side.
As for Jacksonville, they had a nice second half versus South Carolina State in their most recent outing. The Dolphins had failed to hit 70 points in the two games prior (both losses) however, so if they can’t get it going quickly here I like the Hokies to control things fairly easily.
