The Eagles’ season has been rough so far, with a lone win over Southeastern LA on September 7. Otherwise it was losses to Kentucky, South Florida, Louisiana, Jacksonville State, LA-Monroe, Arkansas State, James Madison, Marshall and Texas State through the first 10 games.
In their matchup with South Alabama, Southern Miss was behind by only three points at the break but couldn’t do much in the second half during a 35-14 loss. Tate Rodemaker threw for 108 yards and a TD. Rodrigues Clark rushed 12 times for 115 yards in the defeat.
Troy Trojans Betting Preview
Over on the Troy side, they lost seven of their first eight to Nevada, Memphis, Iowa, LA-Monroe, Texas State, South Alabama and Arkansas State. The Trojans would win the next pair over Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern, though.
Matched up against Louisiana on Saturday, Troy gave up 27 points in the second quarter alone during a 51-30 loss. Matthew Caldwell threw for 230 yards, four scores and two picks. Damien Taylor rushed 16 times for 67 yards, and Devonte Ross caught eight balls for 95 yards and a TD.
Troy vs Southern Miss Prediction
I’ll stick with Troy. That said, there’s not a whole lot of intrigue here if you’re not a fan of either team. The Trojans are coming off a bad loss to a pretty solid Louisiana team, posting three turnovers and giving up 418 yards (323 passing) on defense. Troy has been scoring well lately with 28 or more points in four straight, but they’ve gone just 2-2 in that quartet.
As for Southern Miss, they held the ball for most of the game (38:48) in their latest loss but could only score 14 points along the way. The Eagles have been below 16 points in four straight games, so it’s tough imagining them competing for too long in this one.
