The Utah Utes and the West Virginia Mountaineers meet Saturday in college football action from Milan Puskar Stadium. Here’s a West Virginia vs Utah prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best West Virginia vs Utah pick.

Utah Utes Betting Preview

Utah didn’t have any issues in their first three games of the season, rolling through a trio of blowout wins. The first one came on the road against UCLA in the opener, as Utah cruised to a 43-10 result. Ditto for game two versus Cal Poly; Utah scored 21 points in both the second and third quarters during a 63-9 victory. In game three versus Wyoming, the Utes started slowly with a 3-0 halftime lead but eventually rolled to a 31-6 win. The Utes offense generated 541 total yards in that one, with 311 of those coming via the rushing attack. On the other side the Utes held Wyoming to a tepid 229 yards.

Last weekend in their matchup with Texas Tech, Utah was only down by a TD at the end of the third quarter, then got outscored 24-7 from there in a 34-10 loss. QB Devon Dampier was 25-of-38 for 162 yards and a pair of interceptions, while Dallen Bentley led the receivers on six catches for 75 yards. NaQuari Rogers rushed 10 times for 37 yards, and Ryan Davis caught 10 balls for 70 yards as well.

West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview

Over on the Mountaineers’ side, they’ve also got four games in the bag so far. West Virginia didn’t have trouble with Robert Morris in their opener this year, waltzing to a 45-3 victory in the end. Game two was a road matchup versus Ohio and the Mountaineers’ first loss, though. West Virginia ended up falling in that one 17-10. The good news is that WVU bounced back in their game versus Pittsburgh on September 13—but it took overtime to get there. The Mountaineers scored an extra-period TD for a 31-24 outcome. During the win, the WVU offense generated 434 yards (260 passing) and 28 first downs.

Matched up against Kansas on Saturday, West Virginia gave up points in every quarter (including double-digits in the second and third) during a blowout loss 41-10. Nicco Marchiol threw for 126 yards and a pick on 15-of-27 passing, and Cyncir Bowers was the leading receiver with two catches for 26 yards. Jaylen Henderson topped the rushing attack with 79 yards and a score off seven carries in the defeat.

West Virginia vs Utah Prediction

I’ll likely stick with Utah, but they’ll need a good bounce-back effort following that rough loss to Texas Tech last weekend. The Utes offense posted four turnovers (two fumbles) in that one, along with 263 yards (162 passing), 16 first downs and an ugly 4-of-14 on third-down tries. Not even two interceptions from the defense and 14 Red Raiders penalties for 122 yards could stop the Utes from falling in a pretty dismal showing. Prior to that 10-point effort last weekend though, Utah had been rolling right along on offense with 31 or more points in three straight games. Considering Kansas was able to hang 41 points on West Virginia last weekend, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Utes return to form here.

As for the Mountaineers, they went just 3-of-15 on third downs in the aforementioned loss to Kansas alongside 324 yards (142 passing), 18 first downs and a couple of turnovers. The defense gave up 388 yards to the Jayhawks, with most of the damage coming from 242 rush yards. The team was solid on third downs (5-of-14) allowed but couldn’t generate any takeaways. West Virginia is in for another tricky matchup on Saturday, though it should help that the Mountaineers are at home this time.
