The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers meet Saturday in college football action from Brooks Stadium. Here’s a Coastal Carolina vs LA-Monroe prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Coastal Carolina vs LA-Monroe pick.

LA-Monroe Warhawks Betting Preview

Through their first four games this year, the Warhawks were able to muster wins in three of them—the outlier being a tough matchup. LA-Monroe took out St. Francis PA 29-0 in the opener, then got blanked by Alabama 73-0 in game two. The Warhawks were able to get back on track with wins in the next two games though, taking out UTEP 31-25 and Arkansas State 28-16 in that pair. In the win over the Red Wolves, LA-Monroe held the opposition to just 12 rush yards and 3-of-15 on third-down tries—but did commit nine penalties along the way.

In last weekend’s matchup versus Northwestern, LA-Monroe had a 7-7 tie after the first quarter. That’s the only scoreboard visit the Warhawks would make though, as they ended up surrendering points in every quarter along the way to a 42-7 blowout road loss. QB Aidan Armenta was 10-of-19 for 129 yards and a touchdown, while leading rusher Braylon McReynolds carried eight times for 49 yards. Nic Trujillo was tops among receivers with 61 yards and a score off two catches in the blowout defeat.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Preview

Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they went 2-2 in their first four games this year. The losses were both sizable: one came 48-7 in the opener versus Virginia, then a couple games later it was a 38-0 blowout loss to East Carolina. Aside from that, the Chanticleers beat Charleston Southern 13-0 and South Alabama 38-20 in their first four outings. In the win over the Jaguars, the Chanticleers gave up 223 yards rushing but also came up with three turnovers.

Matched up against Old Dominion last weekend, the Chanticleers were facing a 34-0 deficit by halftime. Things didn’t get any better from there, as the Monarchs gave up points in every quarter (including 24 in the second alone) during a 47-7 blowout defeat. QB Tad Hudson was 19-of-30 for 108 yards, one TD and one pick, and Ja’Vin Simpkins carried eight times for 39 yards to top the rushers. Leading the receivers in the blowout road loss was Elijah Aragon, who produced four catches for 35 yards total.

Coastal Carolina vs LA-Monroe Prediction

I’ll probably lean toward Louisiana-Monroe, but I’m also probably not touching this one. There’s not a lot to get excited about here with both teams coming off ugly road losses but it should at least be a competitive matchup. In any case, LA-Monroe mustered 273 total yards (186 passing), 5.2 yards per play, 18 first downs and a 3-of-10 success rate on third-down tries during their last outing. The defense allowed Northwestern to post 515 total yards (246 rushing), 7.3 yards per play, 26 first downs and 11-of-17 on third-down tries. It wasn’t a pretty outing, that’s for sure. The Warhawks are generally a pretty good scoring team in comparable matchups, though; they’ve hit 28 or more points in three of five games so far—the only exceptions being a pair of blowout losses on the road.

As for Coastal Carolina, their offense was even worse statistically versus ODU. The Chanticleers managed only 189 yards (108 passing), 12 first downs, 2.8 yards per play and two turnovers. That makes exactly one game with more than 13 points so far this year for Coastal Carolina (38 versus South Alabama), so I’m not instilled with much confidence that they can keep a cover pace in this one. I’ll probably stay away, though.
