The Oklahoma Sooners and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet Saturday in college football action from Williams-Brice Stadium. Here’s a South Carolina vs Oklahoma prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best South Carolina vs Oklahoma pick.
Oklahoma Sooners Betting Preview
Oklahoma began the year on a nice run, despite registering a close call or two along the way. The Sooners kicked things off with a 35-3 blowout win over Illinois State, then escaped a home game versus Michigan 24-13. After the Temple blowout 42-3, the Sooners powered out a 24-17 home win over Auburn then demolished Kent State 44-0. In that matchup Oklahoma’s defense held the Flashes to just 135 total yards, seven first downs and a 2-of-13 result on third-down tries. The offense gained 355 yards and 23 first downs on the other side as well.
In last weekend’s game versus Texas, Oklahoma carried a 6-3 advantage heading into the second half. That’s all the scoring that the Sooners would be able to muster however, as they got outpaced 20-0 the rest of the way during a rough road loss 23-6. QB John Mateer had 202 yards and three interceptions on a 20-of-38 line, while top rusher Troy Blaylock carried 11 times for 33 yards. Deion Burks caught five balls for 64 yards as the team’s leading receiver in the losing effort.
South Carolina Gamecocks Betting Preview
Over on the South Carolina side, they kicked off their season with a couple of wins over Virginia Tech and South Carolina State. The Gamecocks would fall against ranked teams in the next two games, losing to Vanderbilt and Missouri. South Carolina would recover in game five though, beating Kentucky 35-13 at home. In that victory the Gamecocks scored 21 points in the second quarter alone on the way to 341 total yards—178 of those being on the ground. The South Carolina defense held the Wildcats to just 232 yards on the other side.
Matched up against LSU last Saturday night, the Gamecocks were up 7-3 by the end of the first quarter but could only muster a field goal the rest of the way. The end result was a 20-10 defeat on the road. QB LaNorris Sellers finished 15-of-27 for 124 yards and an interception, while Matthew Fuller topped the rushers with seven carries for 83 yards and a touchdown of his own. Nyck Harbor was the leading team receiver with two grabs for 36 yards in total.

South Carolina vs Oklahoma Prediction
I’ll stick with Oklahoma. The Sooners need a significant bounce-back effort after their upset road loss versus Texas last weekend, and this is a solid place to get it. Oklahoma meandered for 258 total yards (48 rushing), 3.7 yards per play and 16 first downs in the defeat while coughing up three interceptions. On the other side Oklahoma let the Longhorns keep drives going with a 10-of-17 effort on third-down conversions, though they only allowed 15 first downs in total. The six points were the Sooners’ lowest total of the season by a significant margin (24, twice previously). Oklahoma’s stock has dropped quite a bit following the defeat, but they’re still a dangerous team who should control this game if they play well.
As for South Carolina, they rushed well (193 yards) but had just 124 yards through the air alongside two turnovers and 13 penalties in their latest loss to LSU. The defense came up with three takeaways and did pretty well on third downs (4-of-11) but there simply wasn’t enough production to keep pace. South Carolina has 20 or fewer points in three of the last four games, with all three of those being losses. Oklahoma should be able to keep a lid on them if the Sooners defense shows up.
