The Virginia Cavaliers and the Texas Longhorns meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Moody Center. Here’s a Virginia vs Texas prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Virginia vs Texas pick.
Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
The Cavs are doing pretty well so far this season; they’ve got just one loss on the card. Virginia kicked off the season with a win over Rider followed by another over North Carolina Central. The Cavaliers would then take out Hampton and Marshall ahead of a win over Northwestern. Game six was a loss to Butler, but Virginia would bounce back with a November 28 win over Queens U. That gives the Cavaliers a 6-1 run through their first seven games this year.
In the Queens U matchup last Friday, the Cavaliers came out of the break with a 46-29 edge. Virginia hit a 48-40 run the rest of the way and took the easy win 94-69 in the end. Topping the scorers in the victory was Thijs De Ridder with 21 points in 22 minutes. Sam Lewis added 15 points with four assists and two rebounds, while Johann Grunloh doubled up on 13 points and 10 rebounds alongside two assists in 23 minutes of work on the floor.
Texas Longhorns Betting Preview
Over on the Texas side, they’ve taken two losses in their eight games so far. The Longhorns opened with a defeat at the hands of Duke, then hit a win streak over the next four games. Those victories came courtesy of Lafayette, Fairleigh Dickinson, Kansas City and Rider in succession. Texas would lose game six versus Arizona State, but they’ve since taken wins over Chaminade and NC State in the last two outings. That gives Texas a 6-2 run across their first eight outings.
Matched up against NC State last Wednesday, the Longhorns were up by 10 points at the break. Texas was outscored 60-55 from there and had to hang on but eventually pulled out the win 102-97. Jordan Pope led the team on his 28 points with four assists and Chendall Weaver had 17 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Matas Vokietaitis chipped in with 13 points and three rebounds in 25 minutes as well.

Virginia vs Texas Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Texas here, so long as the team doesn’t suffer from the proverbial “big-win hangover,” that is. The Longhorns are coming off a nice effort in an upset victory versus a good NC State team, hitting 55.8 percent from the field and 50 percent (16-of-32) from outside along with a very nice 28-of-33 (84.8 percent) at the line. Texas put up a 31-25 rebounding edge with 18 assists and just seven turnovers, but got buried in the paint 46-20. The Longhorns are scoring great this year; they’ve got 99 or more points in three of the last four games.
As for the Cavs, they blew right past Queens U in their latest game. Virginia shot 53.3 percent from the field in that one with 15-of-33 (45.5 percent) from outside but a tepid 15-of-22 (68.2 percent) at the line. Virginia has 73 or more points in every game this year, with 81 or more points in each of their victories. This matchup should be a pretty good one, and you could call it either way. It’ll be fun to watch.
