The Xavier Musketeers and the Georgetown Hoyas meet Saturday in college basketball action from Capital One Arena in Washington. Here’s a Georgetown vs Xavier prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Georgetown vs Xavier pick.

Xavier Musketeers Betting Preview

The Musketeers kicked off their year on a 3-3 run. Xavier beat Marist, Le Moyne and Old Dominion in that time, with losses otherwise versus Santa Clara, Iowa and Georgia. The next five games were all wins over West Virginia, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Saint Francis, Cincinnati and Missouri State though, which would give the Musketeers an 8-3 run across their first 11 outings.

In the Creighton matchup on Wednesday, the Musketeers were demolished 49-22 in the first half. Xavier didn’t get any better from there, hitting a 49-35 run during a 98-57 blowout loss in the end. Tops in scoring was Malik Messina-Moore with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Roddie Anderson added 12 points with two rebounds and two assists in the losing effort for the Musketeers as well.

Georgetown Hoyas Betting Preview

Over on the Georgetown side, they beat Morgan State, Maryland, Binghamton, Clemson and Wagner during a nice 5-0 start this year. The Hoyas hit a 2-3 run in the next five though, falling to Dayton, Miami and North Carolina with wins over UMBC and Saint Peter’s otherwise. Over their first 10 games of the year that would give the Hoyas a 7-3 overall record at that point.

Matched up against Marquette on Wednesday, the Hoyas held a 37-33 edge by the break. Georgetown kept it up in the second with a 41-36 advantage and took the win in the end 78-69. Leading the team in scoring was Damarius Owens with 15 points and seven rebounds. Nigel James chipped in 13 points with five assists and Royce Parham had 12 points with four boards in the win.

Why the Georgetown Hoyas will win

  • Georgetown has won each of its last nine games at Capital One Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • The home team has won the first half in four of the last five games between Xavier and Georgetown.

Why the Xavier Musketeers will win

  • Xavier has won each of its last six Saturday games.
  • Georgetown has lost 33 of its last 41 games against Conference opponents at Capital One Arena.
  • Xavier has won the first half in eight of its last nine games against Conference opponents.

Georgetown vs Xavier Prediction

I’ll lean toward Georgetown. The Hoyas notched a pretty solid road win over Marquette in their last appearance, shooting 46.6 percent from the field with a 38-29 rebounding edge and just eight turnovers. The only real shaky spot for Georgetown was a 4-of-16 effort (25 percent) from 3-point range, but it didn’t end up mattering much. The Hoyas have a combined 154 points in their last two games, and they’ve won three of the last four outings (the outlier being an 81-61 road loss to a great North Carolina team).

As for Xavier, they shot just 36.4 percent from the field in their latest loss to Creighton. The Musketeers weren’t great from the line (3-of-6) and got outmuscled on the boards 37-27 in addition to 14 turnovers. Xavier had scored 75 or more points in seven straight games (a 6-1 run) prior to that, however, so if they can get back in the groove here we’ll have a great matchup on our hands.
