The Kansas Jayhawks and the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet Monday in college basketball action from United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock. Here’s a Texas Tech vs Kansas prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Texas Tech vs Kansas pick.

Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview

This year the Jayhawks started out on a pretty nice clip, hitting a 10-3 run over their first 13 games. The only losses in that time came versus North Carolina, Duke and UConn. Kansas lost to Central Florida and West Virginia over the next three, then took out Iowa State, Baylor, Colorado and Kansas State in succession over the next quartet. That would give the Jayhawks a 15-5 record over their first 20 games of the season.

In their matchup with BYU on Saturday, the Jayhawks were looking good by halftime, heading into the locker room sporting a nice 53-33 lead. Kansas was outscored 49-37 the rest of the way but still managed to hang on for the eight-point victory at home 90-82. Leading the team in scoring was Bryson Tiller with 21 points and seven rebounds while Darryn Peterson had 18 points with three boards in the win.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Raiders’ side, they mustered a 7-3 record in their first 10 games during a fairly solid opening stretch. The losses in that time were versus Illinois, Purdue and Arkansas. Texas Tech hit a 9-1 run over the next 10 games with wins over Northern Colorado, Duke, Winthrop, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Utah, BYU, Baylor and Houston. Across their first 20 games this year that would make for a 16-4 record in the books for the Red Raiders.

Matched up against Central Florida in Saturday’s outing, Texas Tech was in trouble at the break, sitting on a 44-40 deficit. The Red Raiders copied that run 44-40 in the second half and limped to a tough loss on the road 88-80 in the end. Leading the team in the losing effort was JT Toppin on 27 points with 10 rebounds, while Christian Anderson had 17 points with nine assists as well.

Texas Tech vs Kansas Prediction

I’ll lean toward Kansas. The Jayhawks surged in the first half against a very good BYU team this past weekend, rolling to a nice home victory on 57.1 percent shooting and 50 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc. Kansas was competitive on the boards and in the paint but could have been better from the line (62.5 percent on 15-of-24). Still, that makes five straight wins for the Jayhawks, two against ranked teams and two on the road. Kansas has 80 or more points in four of those five wins as well.

As for Texas Tech, they couldn’t quite keep pace with a sneaky good Central Florida team on Saturday. The Raiders were outscored in the paint 48-36 and out-rebounded 34-22 while coughing up 13 turnovers and giving up 49.2 percent shooting on defense. Texas Tech is still 5-1 in their last six games though, and should be able to regroup for this tough home matchup. We should have a great game on our hands here regardless.
