Over on the Raiders’ side, they mustered a 7-3 record in their first 10 games during a fairly solid opening stretch. The losses in that time were versus Illinois, Purdue and Arkansas. Texas Tech hit a 9-1 run over the next 10 games with wins over Northern Colorado, Duke, Winthrop, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Utah, BYU, Baylor and Houston. Across their first 20 games this year that would make for a 16-4 record in the books for the Red Raiders.

Matched up against Central Florida in Saturday’s outing, Texas Tech was in trouble at the break, sitting on a 44-40 deficit. I’ll lean toward Kansas. The Jayhawks surged in the first half against a very good BYU team this past weekend, rolling to a nice home victory on 57.1 percent shooting and 50 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc. Kansas was competitive on the boards and in the paint but could have been better from the line (62.5 percent on 15-of-24). Still, that makes five straight wins for the Jayhawks, two against ranked teams and two on the road. Kansas has 80 or more points in four of those five wins as well.

As for Texas Tech, they couldn’t quite keep pace with a sneaky good Central Florida team on Saturday. The Raiders were outscored in the paint 48-36 and out-rebounded 34-22 while coughing up 13 turnovers and giving up 49.2 percent shooting on defense. Texas Tech is still 5-1 in their last six games though, and should be able to regroup for this tough home matchup. We should have a great game on our hands here regardless.
