The Iowa State Cyclones and the TCU Horned Frogs meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth. Here’s a TCU vs Iowa State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best TCU vs Iowa State pick.

Iowa State Cyclones Betting Preview

The Cyclones kicked off the season with a flourish, taking victories in each of their first 16 games fresh out of the gate. Iowa State would lose consecutive matchups versus Kansas and Cincinnati before recovering versus UCF, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Kansas State and Baylor in the next five. Over the first 23 games of the year that gives the Cyclones a solid 21-2 overall run.

In the Baylor matchup last weekend the Cyclones entered the second half with a four-point edge 37-33. Iowa State hit a 36-35 deficit from there but held on for the win in the end 72-69. Milan Momcilovic topped the team with his 21 points and five rebounds while Joshua Jefferson added 15 points with five rebounds and four assists over 35 minutes on the floor in the winning effort for Iowa State.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview

Over on the Frogs’ side, they were sitting at a nice 11-3 in early January. Losses to Kansas, Arizona, BYU and Utah came next though, before wins over Oklahoma State and Baylor. After that came losses to Houston and Colorado before a win over Kansas State. Across the first 23 games so far that gives the Horned Frogs a 14-9 overall record in the books for their troubles.

Matched up against Kansas State on Saturday the Frogs were in the locker room with a 46-42 deficit. TCU woke up in the second half on a 42-36 run though, and eventually took the win 84-82 on their home floor. The Frogs’ lead scorer was Xavier Edmonds with a double-double on 26 points and 10 rebounds. Micah Robinson added 16 points with six boards and two assists as well.

TCU vs Iowa State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Iowa State but this should be a fun matchup. The Cyclones were able to eke past a plucky Baylor team last weekend thanks to 50 percent shooting and a 38-24 advantage on points in the paint. Iowa State wasn’t spectacular at the line (63.2 percent on 12-of-19) however, and had 13 turnovers along the way. The Cyclones have won five straight games now, scoring 84 or more points in four of them.

As for TCU, they got a win over the weekend as well but it wasn’t the prettiest thing in the world. The Frogs shot a tepid 61.1 percent from the line with 13 turnovers and 52.4 percent shooting surrendered on defense. Still, TCU had a nice 35-19 rebounding advantage and shot 45.8 percent from the field themselves. The Frogs have given up a lot of points lately: 79 or more in four straight games (a 2-2 run).
