The Oregon State Beavers and the Houston Cougars meet Saturday in college football action from TDECU Stadium in Houston. Here’s a Houston vs Oregon State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Houston vs Oregon State pick.
Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview
To put it mildly, the Beavers had a rough campaign in 2025. Oregon State would eventually finish just 2-10 overall, losing their only designated Pac-12 game (versus Washington State) in an odd year of conference realignment. In any case, the Beavers lost their first seven outings before recording their only two victories over Louisiana and Washington State (in what was billed as a non-conference outing). Oregon State finished off with losses to Sam Houston, Tulsa and Washington State.
This season the Beavers will hit the reset button under the tutelage of first-year head coach JaMarcus Shephard. He’ll bring a fresh outlook and a brand new coaching staff in an effort to bring Oregon State back to relevance in a revamped Pac-12 Conference. The Beavers are rife with newcomers and relatively unproven talent, so it’s sure to be an interesting campaign.
Houston Cougars Betting Preview
Over on the Cougars’ side, they had a pretty good run last year, all things considered. Houston powered out a 10-3 record in the regular season when all was said and done, alongside a 6-3 mark among a competitive Big 12 Conference. The Cougars finished behind only Texas Tech, BYU and Utah in the standings with that effort. After opening up the year at 7-1, Houston lost to West Virginia and TCU over a three-game span before taking out Baylor. In the Texas Bowl versus LSU, Houston closed with a win over LSU in a thriller 38-35.
Moving on to the 2026 campaign, the Cougars have some pretty hefty expectations on their shoulders. Third-year head coach Willie Fritz is back on the sidelines and most pundits have the team in the mix for a potential Big 12 championship this season. With plenty of veteran presence on the offensive line, redshirt senior QB Connor Weigman will be free to make use of his myriad weapons. Makhi Hughes and Amare Thomas should be frequent topics of conversation this season.

Houston vs Oregon State Prediction
I’m leaning toward Houston here. The Cougars look like a pretty darn elite team on paper, and we should see the offense blossom quickly if all goes according to plan. On the defensive side, Houston retains six starters alongside some nice-looking transfers. Will James and Sione Fotu will be key cogs on defense, and the pass rush should be quite lethal. It’ll be a fun team to watch, and this is a pretty easy matchup to get the Cougars’ proverbial feet wet in the opener.
As for Oregon State, they’ve been getting killed by the transfer portal over the last few years so it’s been hard for the team to stay relevant. The ceiling for this team is a potential bowl bid however, so all things considered they’re not in the most dire of straits. Still, it’s likely going to take a few games for all the new faces to develop some chemistry so I’m not optimistic about their chances at staying anywhere close in this one.
