The Nevada Wolf Pack and the UTEP Miners meet Saturday in college football action from the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Here’s a UTEP vs Nevada prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best UTEP vs Nevada pick.

Nevada Wolf Pack Betting Preview

The Wolf Pack have only gotten four games in the books so far this year, and they’ve skidded to a rough 1-3 record in that time. The opener was a win however, as Nevada took out Western Kentucky 49-14. Game two was a loss to Montana State, then came another defeat at the hands of Middle Tennessee. That one ended up being decided by a 27-20 score.

In game four versus Air Force, the Wolf Pack played another close game. Nevada fought through two overtime periods but eventually lost 36-33 on the strength of Rocco Conti’s 7-yard TD run. Wolf Pack QB Carter Jones was 18-of-30 for 224 yards. Herschel Turner led the rush with 11 carries for 111 yards and two scores while Donnie Cheers had one 50-yard catch.

UTEP Miners Betting Preview

Over on the UTEP side, they’ve completed five games so far but are on the wrong side of the .500 mark this year. The Miners had a tough opener versus Oklahoma, losing that one 51-0. UTEP came back with a nice 51-10 win at home over Texas Southern, but then lost big to Michigan 52-17 in game three. Game four was another loss to Oregon State 33-7.

Matched up against New Mexico last weekend the Miners were overmatched. UTEP couldn’t find any offensive room and continued to give up scores along the way to an ugly blowout loss 61-7 in the end. QB EJ Colson was 6-of-12 for 45 yards and a pick. Raymond Moore had a good statistical game though, leading the rush on 11 carries for 134 yards and the lone TD.

UTEP vs Nevada Prediction

I’ll lean toward Nevada. The Wolf Pack have had some time to think about their double-overtime loss to Air Force and the 5-of-15 success rate on third-down tries in it. Nevada gathered up 411 yards on offense in that one but the defense gave up 455 on the other side. With an extra week off I like the Wolf Pack to come into this one strong.

As for UTEP, they got destroyed by New Mexico’s defense last weekend, posting just 11 first downs, 101 pass yards, 4-of-12 on third downs and a whopping five turnovers. The Miners have given up 33 or more points in all four of their losses and 51 or more in three of those. Nevada should be able to put up a big number in this one.
