The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils meet Saturday in college football action from Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham. Here’s a Duke vs North Carolina prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Duke vs North Carolina pick.
North Carolina Tar Heels Betting Preview
The Tar Heels have had a pretty choppy year so far, but they started out well at least. North Carolina powered out a five-point win versus TCU in their opener, then followed that up with another victory versus East Tennessee State 35-3. The next two games were losses however, as the Tar Heels dropped to Clemson 28-20 on the road and Notre Dame 37-36.
Last weekend versus Pitt, the Tar Heels were down 10-0 at one point in the second quarter but then scored a couple of touchdowns to take the lead late. After a couple more scores North Carolina emerged victorious 21-17. QB Billy Edwards was 18-of-26 for 249 yards, two touchdowns and two picks. Jordan Shipp caught six balls for 93 yards in the win.
Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview
Over on the Duke side, they got off to a nice start this season. The Blue Devils got a 17-3 victory over Tulane in their first outing, then beat Illinois in a road matchup 31-27. Duke kept it going with a 35-7 victory over Stanford then a 62-7 blowout win versus an overmatched William & Mary squad in game four. That would make for an undefeated 4-0 run to kick things off.
Matched up against Georgia Tech on Saturday, Duke went into the break with a 14-10 deficit then traded touchdowns in the third quarter. The Blue Devils had a brief lead late but ended up falling 28-25 after a final Georgia Tech touchdown. QB Walker Eget was 26-of-41 for 259 yards and a score while Nate Sheppard had 27 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

Duke vs North Carolina Prediction
I’ll stick with UNC. The Tar Heels posted a gritty win over Pitt last weekend despite posting just 13 first downs, two turnovers and 3-of-11 on third-down tries. North Carolina gave up 23 first downs and 369 yards on defense but also had a couple of takeaways themselves. It was a nice turnaround after a couple of consecutive losses to Clemson and Notre Dame.
As for Duke, they couldn’t close out a late road win over Georgia Tech last weekend and took their first loss of the season. The Blue Devils had scored 31 or more points in three straight weeks prior to that, but the good news is that they’ve still only given up more than seven points twice in five games so far.
