The Houston Rockets will be eager to build on their strong start after blowing past the Mavericks in a 128-110 home win on Wednesday. Kevin Durant led the team with 30 points on 10 of 16 shooting, Jabari Smith Jr added 30 points on 11 of 17 shooting, Alperen Sengun added 23 points with 10 rebounds and five assists while Fred VanVleet chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 53 percent from the field and 16 of 36 from the 3-point line as they took control of the contest early with a dominant 38-12 second quarter to take a 37-point lead which was more than enough to hold off a late rally from the Mavericks.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting stopped by the Thunder in a 116-104 home defeat on Tuesday. Stephon Castle led the team with 24 points on nine of 21 shooting, Dylan Harper added 18 points with seven rebounds and five assists while Victor Wembeyana tallied 12 points with 13 rebounds and six blocks. As a team, the Spurs shot just 39 percent from the field and 10 of 37 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to cut a 26-point deficit to just seven points in the fourth quarter, only to come up well short in the end. Wembenyama had a rough game as he shot just one of 13 from the field with four turnovers.

The Rockets are still keeping an eye on Steven Adams and Reed Sheppard who are both questionable, while the Spurs have ruled out Tobias Harris with Keldon Johnson and De’Aaron Fox both listed as questionable. The Rockets made light work of the banged up Mavericks in their first game, but the competition jumps up a few notches against this Spurs team coming off a tough home defeat. I like the Spurs to bounce back at home in a close one, but this just seems like too many free points to be giving this Rockets team who could win this outright. Give me the Rockets to at least keep this one close heading into the final minute of the game.
