The BYU Cougars meet the Utah Utes in the Holy War rivalry game in week 2 college football action from LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday night.

The Utah Utes will look to build on their 40-17 win over Weber State last time out. Charlie Brewer threw for 233 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception on 19 of 27 passing while Cameron Rising had 29 passing yards and a score. Tavion Thomas rushed for a team-high 107 yards and 2 touchdowns on 12 carries while Micah Bernard contributed 6 carries for 35 yards. Dalton Kincaid added a team-high 4 receptions for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Solomon Enis had 4 catches for 62 yards with a score and Brant Kuithe and Bernard each had 3 catches for 40+ yards. Defensively, Devin Lloyd led the Utes with 12 total tackles including a team-high 7 solo tackles and a sack while Xavier Carlton had a sack as well. Lloyd also added an interception to his stat line in the win for the Utes.

The BYU Cougars will try to pick up another W after a 24-16 win over Arizona last time out. Jaren Hall threw for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 18 of 28 passing while Tyler Allgeier rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Neil Pau’u led BYU’s receivers with 8 grabs for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Keanu Hill and Chris Jackson each had 20+ receiving yards. Defensively, Keenan Pili led the way with 17 total tackles including 10 solo tackles and a sack while Payton Wilgar, Tyler Batty and Uriah Leiataua each had a sack as well. Hayden Livingston also recorded an interception for BYU in the victory.

Utah is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. BYU is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 week 2 matchups while the under is 10-2 in their last 12 games against the Pac-12.

This should be an interesting matchup as these two teams don’t like each other one bit. With that said, I’m a bit skiddish about how BYU was unable to put Arizona away for the majority of that game, and we’re still seeing the Cougars adjust to life without Zach Wilson at QB. Utah answered the call and looked comfortable with Charlie Brewer leading that offense. I think the Utes could open some eyes in the coming weeks and it starts here. Give me Utah in this one.
