The UMass Minutemen meet the Boston College Eagles in week 2 college football action from McGuirk Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Boston College Eagles will look to build off of their 51-0 rout of Colgate last time out. Phil Jurkovec threw for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns on 16 of 24 passing while also leading the Eagles with 61 rushing yards. Travis Levy, Pat Garwo III and Peter Stehr each had a receiving score as well in the victory for BC. Zay Flowers led the Eagles with 7 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Jahmin Muse had a 22-yard pick-six and Mike Palmer had an interception of his own while Shitta Sillah had 7 solo tackles and a sack. Cam Horsley also chipped in a sack for the Eagles as well in the victory.

The UMass Minutemen will try to rebound from ending up on the wrong end of a 51-7 loss at the hands of Pitt in their last game. Tyler Lytle threw for 167 yards on 14 of 31 passing while also rushing for the lone TD for UMass in the defeat. Kay’Ron Adams had 11 carries for 32 yards while Jermaine Johnson Jr. had 3 catches for a team-high 52 receiving yards. Taylor Edwards had 32 receiving yards and Josiah Johnson had 28 receiving yards while Adams had a team-high 4 receptions. Defensively, Da’Shon Ross had a team-high 9 total tackles with 6 solo tackles while Bryce Watts had 6 solo tackles of his own. Xavier Gonsalves chipped in a sack as well for the Minutemen in the loss.

Boston College is 13-7 ATS in their last 20 Saturday road games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games in September. UMass is 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 week 2 matchups while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 Saturday games.

Yeesh. This is not a game I imagined going anywhere near on Saturday, but let’s face it. Me, you, and 9 random people off of the street could probably hang 40 points on UMass at this point. Boston College isn’t a world beater by any means, but Jurkovec is a capable QB and could help the Eagles make this game very ugly. I’ll lay the points with Boston College here.
