The UTSA Roadrunners meet the Lamar Cardinals in week 2 college football action from the Alamodome on Saturday evening.

The Lamar Cardinals will look to build on a 47-3 win over North American University to kick off their season last time out. Jalen Dummett threw for 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 6 of 8 passing while Michael Chandler Jr. threw for 70 yards and a score on 4 of 6 passing. Chaz Ward added a team-high 59 rushing yards with a TD and James Jones had 50 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns as well. Erik Pizarro led Lamar’s receivers with a pair of catches for 63 yards and a TD while Jack Roe and Connor Venetis each had a single reception that found the end zone. Seth Johnson also recorded an interception for the Cardinal defense in the winning effort.

The UTSA Roadrunners will look to build on their first ever win over a Big Ten opponent, defeating Illinois by a final count of 37-30 last time out. Frank Harris threw for 280 yards and a touchdown on 20 of 32 passing while also rushing for 33 yards and a score. Sincere McCormick led UTSA’s rushing attack with 31 carries for 117 yards while Brenden Brady had 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Zakhari Franklin led UTSA’s receivers with 10 catches for 155 yards and a score and Joshua Cephus had 6 catches for 73 yards. Defensively, Trevor Harmanson and Tariq Woolen each had 9 total tackles including a team-high 7 solo tackles from HArmanson in the winning effort.

Lamar is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday road games. UTSA is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games in September and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 Saturday home games.

There are definitely better options on the board if you feel the need to bet this FBS/FCS matchups, but with that said, I think that a letdown COULD be in effect for UTSA after such an emotional win over Illinois, but I also think that UTSA has bigger fish to fry and won’t take anyone lightly. Lamar routed their opening opponent but you and I could pull 9 people off of the street, play both offense and defense and still be North American University comfortably. Give me UTSA here.
