The Tulsa Golden Hurricane meet the Arkansas State Red Wolves Saturday in Week 4 college football action from Chapman Stadium in Tulsa. Arkansas State is coming off a game versus Washington. The Red Wolves ended up losing in a blowout. As for Tulsa, they just played Ohio State. The Hurricane fell by 21 points in that one. Arkansas State played a solid opener against Central Arkansas, posting 20 fourth-quarter points (after a slow start) in a 40-21 victory. The Red Wolves kept the offense humming in game two versus Memphis but couldn’t keep up with the Tigers. Arkansas State lost that one 55-50.

In game three versus Washington, the Red Wolves gave up 28 first-half points on the way to a 52-3 blowout defeat. Quarterback James Blackman put up 176 yards on 16-of-38 passing, while Johnnie Lang led an anemic rush with 18 yards on six carries.

Over on the Tulsa side, they gave up points in every quarter during their opener game versus UC Davis, ultimately falling in a tough 19-17 defeat. Game two against Oklahoma State was another tough one for the Hurricane. They gave up 21 fourth-quarter points in a 28-23 loss.

In the matchup versus Ohio State, Tulsa kept pace in the first half with a 13-6 deficit but couldn’t keep it going in a 41-20 loss. QB Davis Brin had 428 yards with two TDs and two picks, while Josh Johnson put up 149 yards and a score off eight receptions.

The Red Wolves are 6-1 ATS in their last seven non-conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last six in September. Arkansas State is also 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.

Meanwhile, the Hurricane are 6-1 ATS in their last seven on turf and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 overall. Tulsa is 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win as well.

PICK: I’m going to take Tulsa. The Hurricane actually put up a pretty darn solid effort versus a great Ohio State team despite the three-touchdown defeat. Tulsa notched 501 total yards—428 through the air— put up 25 first downs and had a 9-of-17 mark on third down tries.

As for AR State, they gave up almost 600 total yards of offense to Washington in their last game and couldn’t get much of anything going. I think the Red Wolves will play better here but I still like Tulsa on the cover.
