CFB Pick Today: Arizona State vs Stanford 10/8/21 College Football Picks and Predictions

The Arizona State Sun Devils meet the Stanford Cardinal Friday night in week 6 Pac-12 college football action from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Stanford just finished up a game versus Oregon. In that one the Cardinal pulled off a miraculous OT victory. As for the Sun Devils, they played UCLA last Saturday. Arizona State likewise notched a shocking victory over a ranked opponent. Stanford got off to a rocky start this year with a 24-7 loss to Kansas State in their opener. The Cardinal bounced back with a nice 42-28 win over USC, then beat Vanderbilt 41-23 in game three. Stanford couldn’t handle UCLA in their next game, falling 35-24 to slip back to .500. 

In game five versus Oregon, Stanford managed to score in every quarter on the way to a 31-24 win to knock off the No. 3 team in the nation. QB Tanner McKee had 230 yards and three scores, while Nathaniel Peat led the rush on 78 yards from 15 carries. 

Over on the Arizona State side, they managed a pair of wins in their first two games this year, taking out Southern Utah 41-14 and UNLV 37-10. The Sun Devils lost to BYU 27-17 in game three, but then bounced back with a nice 35-13 win over Colorado. 

Last weekend versus UCLA, Arizona State held UCLA scoreless in the second half during a 42-23 blowout win. QB Jayden Daniels had 286 yards and two scores. Rachaad White and DeaMonte Trayanum combined for 136 yards and three scores off 25 carries. 

The Cardinal are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four Friday games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven conference games. Stanford is 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven road games as well. 

Meanwhile, the Devils are 4-0 ATS in their last four conference games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight Friday games. Arizona State is also 1-4 ATS in their last five at home. 

PICK: I’m going to try Arizona State. This matchup just got all the more intriguing after last weekend’s big wins from both teams, though. The Cardinal gave up 414 yards of total offense to Oregon, but kept the damage minimal during their crazy overtime win. Stanford had no turnovers, but did notch 10 penalties throughout the game. 

As for the Sun Devils, they posted 463 total yards against UCLA, going 5-for-10 on third downs and averaging 8.9 yards per play. It was a really well-balanced effort from both sides of the ball. This one should be pretty close if both teams can avoid the big-win hangover.
