The Colorado State Rams meet the Boise State Broncos Saturday in week 9 MWC college football action from Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. Boise State is coming off a bye week. The Broncos last played Air Force in a seven-point defeat. As for the Rams, they matched up against Utah State last Friday. In that one Colorado State suffered a crushing two-point defeat. Boise State managed to go 3-3 over their first three games. The losses came to UCF, Oklahoma State and Nevada; the victories were courtesy of UTEP, Utah State and BYU. The Broncos ended up falling to Air Force 24-17 in their last outing.

In the loss versus Air Force, Boise State held the Falcons to just three second-half points—but also scored just three themselves. QB Hank Bachmeier put up 259 yards with a TD and a pick, while Andrew Van Buren had 58 yards and a score on 15 rushes.

Over on the Colorado State side, they lost three of their first four games this year, beating Toledo while otherwise falling to South Dakota State, Vanderbilt and Iowa. After that came wins over San Jose State 32-14 and New Mexico 36-7.

In last Friday’s game versus Utah State, the Rams had a blistering fourth-quarter comeback stifled in the final seconds due to a chaotic field goal attempt and fell 26-24. QB Todd Centeio managed 282 yards, one TD and one pick. David Bailey led the rush with 159 yards and two scores.

Boise State is 4-0 ATS in their last four after a straight-up loss and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The Broncos are also 2-5 ATS in their last seven on turf.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five in October. Colorado State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven versus a team with a losing record as well.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Colorado State. The Rams were in position to take an electric win against Utah State, but couldn’t get their field goal unit in position during the final seconds and botched the game-winning try. The nine penalties and two turnovers didn’t help matters either. Still, Colorado State did a lot of things well statistically: 472 total yards, 6.5 yards per play, 26 first downs, etc.

As for Boise State, they did a few good things against a tough Air Force team in their last outing, but couldn’t solve the Falcons’ run-heavy offense with 307 rush yards allowed. The Broncos also committed eight penalties and had a pair of turnovers. I like the Falcons to regroup and play well here, with the Rams ultimately eking out a cover. Should be a fun matchup.
