The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the Florida Atlantic Owls meet Saturday in Conference USA college football action from FAU Stadium. Middle Tennessee played Old Dominion last weekend. In that game the Raiders lost by a touchdown. As for FAU, they’re coming off a game versus Western Kentucky. The Owls would end up losing in a blowout. Middle Tennessee managed just two wins in their first six games, losing to Virginia Tech, UTSA, Charlotte and Liberty during that span. The Raiders then went 3-1 over the next four with wins versus UConn, Southern Miss and FIU.

On Saturday in the Old Dominion game, Middle Tennessee had a 10-10 tie heading into the fourth quarter and couldn’t hang on in a 24-17 loss. QB Nicholas Vattiato finished with 281 yards, one score and one pick. Martell Pettaway added 57 yards on 13 carries.

Over on the FAU side, they hit a 3-3 stretch over their first six. The Owls managed wins over Georgia Southern, Fordham and FIU in that time. The Owls would then beat Charlotte and UTEP before losses to Marshall and Old Dominion.

Florida Atlantic took on Western Kentucky last weekend. The Owls gave up double-digit points in three of four quarters during a 52-17 loss. QB N’Kosi Perry finished with 213 yards, one TD and two picks. Johnny Ford added 43 yards on 13 carries.

The Raiders are 1-5 ATS in the last six road games and 12-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record. MTU is 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, the Owls are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight at home and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. FAU is 2-6-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

PICK: I’m sticking with Middle Tennessee. The Raiders played pretty well on offense against ODU, with 414 yards and 25 first downs. The team made a few costly mistakes during the game though, as with the seven penalties and two turnovers.

As for FAU, they gave up a whopping 608 yards to Western Kentucky in their last game, 508 of those coming through the air. It was a sloppy overall game with 28 total penalties (15 of those were FAU’s), and the Owls threw three picks. I don’t see them bouncing back well enough to cover here.
