C-USA Championship: UTSA vs WKU 12/3/21 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The UTSA Roadrunners and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers square off Friday night in the college football C-USA Championship from the Alamodome in San Antonio. Western Kentucky is riding a seven-game win streak and coming off a victory over Marshall. As for the Roadrunners, they had a long win streak snapped by North Texas in their last game. Western Kentucky got off to a shaky start this year at 1-4. The Hilltoppers lost to Army, Indiana, Michigan State and UTSA in that span. WKU hit a win streak versus Old Dominion, FIU, Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, Rice, FAU and Marshall after the ugly beginning, however. 

In the win over Marshall on Saturday, Western Kentucky was down 14-6 at halftime but went wild from there in an eventual 53-21 win. QB Bailey Zappe put up 328 yards with four scores, and Daewood Davis managed three catches for 105 yards and two TDs. 

Over on the Roadrunners’ side, they lost their opener to Illinois but then hit a win streak versus Lamar, Middle Tennessee, Memphis, UNLV, Western Kentucky, Rice, LA Tech, UTEP, Southern Miss and UAB. UTSA stumbled versus North Texas last weekend and saw their win streak snapped. 

In the North Texas game, UTSA gave up double-digit points in each of the first three quarters during a 45-23 loss. QB Frank Harris had just 59 yards, and also led the rushing attack on 10 carries for 97 yards and a TD. 

The Hilltoppers are 5-0 ATS in their last five overall and 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win. WKU is 5-2 ATS in their last seven as an underdog and 5-0 ATS in their last five conference games.
Meanwhile, UTSA is 6-1 ATS in their last seven versus a team with a winning record and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss. The Roadrunners are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Western Kentucky. This should be a very interesting matchup, as UTSA is the last team to hand the Hilltoppers a loss. That matchup (on October 9) was pretty epic, with both teams scoring in every quarter on the way to a 52-46 Roadrunners win. WKU is on a great run since then and the Roadrunners are coming off a down game. This one should be another competitive matchup, and I think WKU can get in there on a cover.
