Week 3: Arizona State vs Eastern Michigan 9/17/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Arizona State Sun Devils and Eastern Michigan Eagles clash Saturday in week 3 college football action from Sun Devil Stadium. Eastern Michigan just finished up against Louisiana. In that game, the Eagles fell in a blowout. As for Arizona State, they played Oklahoma State in their last game. The Sun Devils lost that matchup by 17 points. Eastern Michigan opened up the year versus Eastern Kentucky. The Eagles scored 14 points in the final three quarters on the way to a 42-34 win. QB Taylor Powell managed 271 yards with three scores and a pick. Samson Evans led the rush on 89 yards, two TDs and 15 carries. 

In game two versus Louisiana, the Eagles had a 14-0 lead at the break but took a 49-21 defeat after a rough second half. Powell finished with 320 yards, one TD and three picks, while Jaylon Jacons posted six carries for 43 yards. Tanner Knue caught eight balls for 88 yards and a score.

Over on the Arizona State side, they kicked off the year against Northern Arizona. The Sun Devils didn’t have any trouble there in a 40-3 win. QB Emory Jones had 152 yards passing, and Xazavian Valladay added 116 rush yards with two scores. Messiah Swinson caught three balls for 50 yards as well. 

In the matchup versus Oklahoma State, the Sun Devils were outscored 17-3 in the first half and couldn’t make up the gap in a 34-17 outcome. Jones finished with 223 yards and a score, while Valladay had 118 yards and a TD off 21 carries to lead the rushing attack. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Arizona State. The Sun Devils had a rough matchup over the weekend, giving up 465 total yards and 30 first downs to a good Oklahoma State team. Arizona State came up with just 2-of-13 on third-down tries and committed 10 penalties for 95 yards so they weren’t doing themselves any favors either. 

As for Eastern Michigan, they started out well against Louisiana but ultimately ended up with five turnovers and 10 penalties for 85 yards in a second-half collapse. It’s not going to get any easier in this matchup, and I don’t think the Eagles will be able to cover.
