The California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal meet Saturday in week 12 PAC-12 college football action from California Memorial Stadium. Stanford is fresh off a game versus Utah. In that one the Cardinal took a blowout loss. As for California, they played Oregon State in their last outing. The Bears lost that game in a blowout as well. Stanford went just 1-4 over their first five games, falling to USC, Washington, Oregon and Oregon State in succession. After wins over Notre Dame and Arizona State, the Cardinal then fell to UCLA and Washington State.

In their matchup versus Utah, the Cardinal had an early seven-point lead. That quickly evaporated however and Stanford lost 42-7. QB Tanner McKee finished with 155 yards and Mitch Leigber led the rush on 40 yards.

Over on the California side, they started out the season on a 3-1 run with wins over UC Davis, UNLV and Arizona. The Bears would then hit a losing streak versus Washington State, Colorado, Washington, Oregon and USC.

Matched up against Oregon State, California was down 21-7 by halftime. The Bears gave up points in every quarter during a 38-10 loss. QB Jack Plummer managed 147 yards and a pick, while Jaydn Ott led the rush on just 20 yards from eight carries.

The Cardinal are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 conference games and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS loss. Stanford is 1-5 ATS in their last six on turf.

Meanwhile, the Bears are 8-1-1 ATS in the last 10 after an ATS loss and 6-2 ATS in their last eight at home. California is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight in November.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Stanford, but honestly I could go either way. These teams seem to be pretty evenly matched on paper. In any case, the Cardinal mustered just 177 total yards in the Utah loss, posting nine first downs and 3-of-14 on third-down tries. Stanford wasn’t in contention for long against a great Utah team.

As for Cal, they mustered just 156 yards (and a dismal nine rush yards) with 10 first downs in their loss to Oregon State. The Bears have put up some decent points totals this year however, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this as a fairly high-scoring affair.
