The Miami-OH RedHawks and Kent State Golden Flashes clash Saturday in a week 6 MAC college football game from Yager Stadium. Kent State is fresh off a matchup versus Ohio. In that one the Flashes took a seven-point win. As for Miami-OH, they played Buffalo in their last game. The RedHawks ended up losing by four in that game. Kent State had a couple of tough matchups to start the season, falling 45-20 to Washington and 33-3 to Oklahoma. The Flashes were able to get a 63-10 blowout victory over LIU, but then came back down to earth with a 39-22 loss to a tough Georgia squad.

In the Ohio matchup, Kent State came back from a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime and eventually won 31-24. QB Collin Schlee went 24-of-37 for 398 yards and a score. Marquez Cooper rushed 40 times for a whopping 240 yards and two touchdowns.

Over on the Miami-OH side, they opened up the year with a 37-13 loss to Kentucky. The RedHawks got their first win over Robert Morris 31-14 in game two, then fell to Cincinnati 38-17. Miami-OH bounced back with a 17-14 win over Northwestern the next week.

On Saturday versus Buffalo, the RedHawks had a 20-17 lead going into the final quarter but ultimately lost 24-20. QB Aveon Smith finished with 119 yards and a pick while also leading the rush on 12 carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Kent State. The Flashes posted a nice comeback win last weekend with 736 total yards and 36 first downs. That said, Kent State hampered themselves with nine penalties and a couple of turnovers; the margin of victory should have been more than seven points.

As for Miami-OH, they had 11 penalties themselves and went a sketchy 5-of-14 on third-down tries in their loss last weekend. Otherwise the RedHawks didn’t do too badly with 240 rush yards and a couple of defensive turnovers. This should be a pretty interesting matchup, but Kent State should have it if they play well.
