The Mississippi State Bulldogs and East Tennessee State Buccaneers clash Saturday in week 12 college football action from Davis Wade Stadium. East Tennessee State is coming off a matchup versus Western Carolina. The Buccaneers fell in a close game there. As for Mississippi State, they played Georgia over the weekend. East Tennessee State went 2-2 over the first four games this year, featuring wins over Mars Hill and Robert Morris. The Buccaneers hit a 1-4 skid after that, falling to Chattanooga, Mercer, Samford and Wofford (with a win over VMI).
In the Western Carolina game, the Buccaneers were up 14-10 going into the final quarter. East Tennessee State couldn’t hang on however and lost 20-17. QB Tyler Riddell threw for 116 yards and Jacob Saylors led the rush with 172 yards and a TD.
Over on the Mississippi State side, they beat Memphis and Arizona before a loss to LSU. The Bulldogs then beat Bowling Green, Texas A&M and Arkansas before falling to Kentucky and Alabama. Mississippi State recovered with a win over Auburn to begin November.
In the Georgia matchup back on Saturday, Mississippi State gave up points in every quarter along the way to a 45-19 loss. QB Will Rogers put up 261 yards and one TD, and Jo’quavious Marks rushed seven times for 41 yards.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Mississippi State but the line is probably too thick to mess with. The Bulldogs are coming off their toughest matchup of the year against a great Georgia team, and predictably Mississippi State lost. The Bulldogs have done much better against comparable competition this season though, and they should be in control with East Tennessee State coming in.
Speaking of the Buccaneers, they’re coming off a tough loss that they probably should have pulled out. East Tennessee State is sitting on a four-game losing streak, and this one won’t be easy either.
