The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Minnesota Golden Gophers clash Saturday in a week 10 Big Ten college football game from Nebraska Memorial Stadium.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers will look to build on their 31-0 win over Rutgers last time out to improve to 5-3 on the year. Tanner Morgan’s thrown for 1,286 yards, 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 66.9% passing while Mohamed Ibrahim leads Minnesota’s ground attack with 955 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Trey Potts and Bryce Williams have also combined for 591 rushing yards and 6 scores this season. Brevyn Spann-Ford and Michael Brown-Stephens each have 300+ receiving yards and Minnesota has another pair of 200+ yard receivers as well on the year. On defense, Mariano Sori-Marin has a team-high 59 total tackles while Danny Striggow has 3.5 sacks this season.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers will try to rebound from back-to-back losses, sitting at 3-5 on the year after a 26-9 loss to Illinois last time out. Casey Thompson has thrown for 2,023 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 62.9% passing while Anthony Grant has a team-high 743 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns this season. Trey Palmer has a team-high 48 receptions for 782 yards and 5 touchdowns while Marcus Washington has 304 receiving yards and Travis Vokolek has 216 receiving yards. On defense, Luke Reimer has a team-high 58 total tackles while Garrett Nelson has a team-high 4.5 sacks this season.
Minnesota is 14-5-1 ATS in their last 20 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Nebraska is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record.
I get the case to be made for a home underdog in some spots, and Minnesota hasn’t necessarily looked like a team that should be laying this many points. However, the Cornhuskers simply aren’t built to stop a team like Minnesota with a porous defense at every level and one that has had a hard time stopping anyone this season. Minnesota still has a top-5 scoring defense and is 6th against the pass and 7th in total defense as well and I think they find a way to rout this disappointing Nebraska team at home. Give me the Golden Gophers in a beatdown.
