The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Texas Tech Red Raiders clash Saturday in a week 6 Big 12 college football game from Boone Pickens Stadium. Texas Tech is fresh off a matchup versus Kansas State. In that one the Raiders took a nine-point loss. As for Oklahoma State, they played Baylor in their last game. The Cowboys ended up with an 11-point victory there. Texas Tech’s year began with a blowout victory over Murray State 63-10, then a 33-30 overtime win over Houston. The Raiders would then take a 27-14 loss to NC State, but bounced back in the next game with a thrilling 37-34 overtime win over Texas.
In the Kansas State game, the Raiders scored 10 points in both the second and third quarters during a 37-28 loss. QB Donovan Smith finished with 359 yards, two scores and two picks. Xavier White was the top receiver with 120 yards and a score off nine catches.
Over on the Oklahoma State side, their year began with a matchup versus Central Michigan and a 58-44 victory. The Cowboys took on Arizona State in game two with a 34-17 win, then had few issues with AR-Pine Bluff in a 63-7 blowout victory.
Matched up against Baylor, the Cowboys gave up 22 points in the third quarter but were still able to hang on for a 36-25 win. QB Spencer Sanders managed 181 yards with a TD and a pick while also leading the rush with 14 carries for 75 yards and a TD.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Texas Tech. The Red Raiders did a pretty solid job offensively in the Kansas State game with 473 total yards and 26 first downs. Texas Tech was just 5-of-14 on third-down tries and had four turnovers, however. (Not to mention the 343 rushing yards allowed.) That said, if the Raiders can clean up a few mistakes I think they’ll look better here.
As for Oklahoma State, they played another solid all-around game against a tough Baylor squad and kept the perfect season rolling. I think there’s enough room for Texas Tech on a cover though.
