The East Carolina Pirates and the Temple Owls meet Saturday in college football action from Lincoln Financial Field. East Carolina is fresh off a matchup versus Houston. In that one the Pirates fell in blowout fashion. As for Temple, they played Cincinnati last weekend. The Owls went on to fall by 20 points. East Carolina managed to go 2-2 over their first four games this year. The wins in that stretch were against Old Dominion and Campbell. Over their next six games the Pirates went 4-2, taking out South Florida, Memphis, UCF and BYU along the way.

In the Houston game, East Carolina was down 21-0 going into the break. The Pirates fell further behind after that and lost 42-3 in a blowout. Quarterback Holton Ahlers managed 182 yards, while Keaton Mitchell rushed 14 times for 128 yards.

Over on the Temple side, they went 2-2 over their first four as well, taking out Lafayette and UMass. The Owls would go just 1-5 over the next six games though: the losses were versus Memphis, UCF, Tulsa,Navy and Houston.

Matched up against Cincinnati back on Saturday, the Owls couldn’t find much room after a 17-3 first-half deficit. Temple went cold from there and lost 23-3. QB EJ Warner managed 167 yards and two picks, while Darvon Hubbard rushed seven times for 30 yards.

The Pirates are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 on grass and 5-2 ATS versus a team with a losing record. East Carolina is 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games.

Meanwhile, the Owls are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. Temple is 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games

PICK: I’m probably going to stay with East Carolina. The Pirates are coming off a rough matchup versus Houston, posting 315 yards (118 rushing), 13 first downs and 3-of-14 on third-down tries. East Carolina was never going to get close in that one, and they were drilled by the Houston passing game (435 yards allowed).

As for Temple, they had a tough game against a good team last weekend as well with 202 total yards, 13 first downs and four turnovers. Things will be relatively easier in this matchup but I don’t think the Owls will cover.
