The Utah State Aggies and New Mexico Lobos meet Saturday in week MWC college football action from Maverik Stadium. New Mexico is sitting at 2-6 overall this year and coming off a bye week. As for Utah State, they’re fresh off an open week as well. The Aggies last appeared in a loss to Wyoming. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.

New Mexico started out with two wins over Maine and UTEP (and a loss to Boise State) over their first three games. The Lobos have hit a losing streak since then, falling to LSU, UNLV, Wyoming, New Mexico State and Fresno State in succession.

In the Fresno State game back on October 22, the Lobos were outscored 28-3 in the second half on the way to a blowout loss 41-9. QB Justin Holaday threw for just 37 yards on 8-of-15 passing and also led the rush with 11 totes for 39 yards.

Over on the Aggies’ side, they beat UConn in their first game this year then fell to Alabama, Weber State, UNLV and BYU over the next four. Utah State would then beat Air Force and Colorado State before a loss to Wyoming in their last game.

In the Wyoming matchup, the Aggies were down 17-7 going into halftime. Utah State was outscored 11-7 from there in a 28-14 loss. QB Bishop Davenoprt finished with 104 yards and a pick, while Calvin Tyler led the rush on 83 yards and a score.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Utah State but not going near this one. Even with both teams well-rested after an open week, there’s not a whole lot to like here. In any case, the Aggies were outgunned 529-217 in total yards in the Wyoming loss, notching just 13 first downs along the way. Utah State has scored a tepid 31 combined points in their last two games, which isn’t a great total for them this year.

As for New Mexico, they’re coming off an ugly loss to Fresno State with just 138 total yards, eight first downs and a 2-of-12 rate on third-down tries. The lesser of two evils is probably Utah State here, but I’m not touching it.
