Week 3: UAB vs Georgia Southern 9/17/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The UAB Blazers and Georgia Southern Eagles clash Saturday in week 3 college football action from Protective Stadium. Georgia Southern played Nebraska over the weekend. In that matchup the Eagles eked out a three-point win. As for UAB, they just finished up versus Liberty. The Blazers would go on to lose by seven points. Georgia Southern played Morgan State in their first outing of the year. The Eagles posted a nice 42-0 edge in the second half and took the 59-7 blowout victory. QB Kyle Vantrease finished with 367 yards and four scores with a pick, and OJ Arnold rushed six times for 45 yards and a TD. 

In their second outing of the year versus Nebraska, the Eagles matched the opposition punch for punch on the way to a tense 45-42 victory. Vantrease threw for 409 yards, one TD and an INT. Gerald Green led the rush with 132 yards and two scores of his own.

Over on the Blazers’ side, they also had a mismatch in their first opener versus Alabama A&M. UAB outscored the opposition 38-0 in the first half and cruised to a 59-0 win. QB Dylan Hopkins had 191 yards and a TD, and Jermaine Brown carried 10 times for 114 yards and a score. 

Back on Saturday versus Liberty, UAB had an early lead but couldn’t keep up in the second half for a 21-14 loss. Hopkins threw for 114 yards on 10-of-15 passing, and DeWayne McBride rushed for 177 yards and a score. 

PICK: I’m staying with Georgia Southern. The Eagles offense was rolling right along versus Nebraska, totaling 642 yards, 7.5 yards per play and 34 first downs. Georgia Southern punted just once and had only three penalties; the two picks were just about the only mistakes on the offensive side of the ball. If the Eagles can keep up the pace they’ve established over their first two games, it’s going to be tough for UAB to hang around in this one.
