The Western Michigan Broncos and Northern Illinois Huskies do battle Wednesday in MAC week 11 college football from Waldo Stadium.

The Northern Illinois Huskies will be out to bounce back from back-to-back losses, sitting at 2-7 on the year after a 35-22 loss to Central Michigan last time out. Rocky Lombardi’s thrown for 645 yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception on 66.7% passing while Harrison Waylee has a team-high 863 rushing yards with 5 touchdowns and Antario Brown has 592 rushing yards and a team-high 6 touchdowns this season. Cole Tucker leads the Huskies with 39 catches for 572 yards and 3 scores while Kacper Rutkiewicz has 325 receiving yards and a team-high 5 touchdowns. On defense, Daveren Rayner has a team-high 71 total tackles and 3.5 sacks while Michael Kennedy has a team-high 4.5 sacks and Devonte O’Malley has 3.5 sacks as well this season.

The Western Michigan Broncos will look to rebound after a 13-9 loss to Bowling Green dropped them to 3-6 on the year. Jack Salopek has thrown for 1,231 yards, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 50.8% passing while Sean Tyler has 622 rushing yards with 4 touchdowns and La’Darius Jefferson has 235 rushing yards and 5 scores as well this season. Corey Crooms leads WMU’s receiving group with 43 catches for 620 yards while Jehlani Galloway has 344 receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Zaire Barnes has a team-high 74 total tackles while Corvin Moment has a team-high 6.5 sacks this season.

Northern Illinois is 45-21-2 ATS in their last 68 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Western Michigan is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games while the over is 18-6 in their last 24 games in September.

I get the case to be made for Western Michigan laying points at home. However, WMU can’t score and while defense has been an issue for NIU this season, the Broncos just aren’t a team built to take advantage of NIU’s deficiencies defensively. The Huskies have also had a ton of success in this matchup over the years and I think they add to that success with another cover here.
