The Montreal Alouettes and Ottawa Redblacks meet Friday in week 5 CFL action at TD Place Stadium. The Montreal Alouettes need a win to rebound from a 1-2 start. The Ottawa Redblacks also need a victory to rebound from back-to-back losses.

The Montreal Alouettes have lost four of their last six games overall. Vernon Adams is completing 52.1 percent of his passes for 643 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Adams has two or more touchdown passes in seven of his last 10 games. Jake Wieneke and B.J. Cunningham have combined for 394 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Eugene Lewis has 11 receptions. The Montreal Alouettes ground game is averaging 127 yards per contest, and William Stanback leads the way with 234 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Montreal is allowing 22.7 points and 350 yards per game. Tyquwan Glass leads the Montreal Alouettes with 15 tackles, Antonio Simmons has two sacks and Wes Sutton has one interception.

The Ottawa Redblacks have lost 13 of their last 14 games overall. Matt Nichols is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 453 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Nichols has zero touchdown passes in four of his last five games. RJ Harris and Ryan Davis have combined for 261 receiving yards on 26 catches while Nathaniel Behar has nine receptions. The Ottawa Redblacks ground game is averaging 63.3 yards per contest, and Timothy Flanders leads the way with 74 yards on 19 carries. Defensively, Ottawa is allowing 19.7 points and 414.3 yards per game. Avery Williams leads the Ottawa Redblacks with 28 tackles, Micah Awe has one sack and Abdul Kanneh has two interceptions.

The Montreal Alouettes aren’t world beaters and I’m not running to the window to lay a full touchdown with them on the road. However, the Redblacks have been the worst team in the CFL dating back to the 2019 season and it doesn’t look like much is going to change this year. The Redblacks also aren’t covering numbers, which makes them even less valuable in the betting market. The road team has won eight of the last 10 meetings between the Redblacks and Alouettes.

I have no choice but to lay the touchdown with Montreal.
