The Northwestern State Demons and the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks meet Wednesday in college basketball action from William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Northwestern State enters this game at 2-13 overall. The Demons took out McNeese State on January 9 but fell to Nicholls State in their last outing. As for the Lumberjacks, they’re 7-2 this year. Stephen F. Austin is riding a four-game win streak and took out Incarnate Word on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Northwestern State began their season with a five-game losing streak before finally picking up a win over Champion on December 12. After that it was another seven straight losses before another win over McNeese State January 9. Last week the Demons lost again, this time to Nicholls State.
In the 76-66 loss to the Colonels, Northwestern State’s Trenton Massner led the team on 16 points with four assists and five rebounds in 33 minutes on the floor. Larry Owens added a double-double for the Demons on 11 points with 12 rebounds in 21 minutes of play.
Over on the Lumberjacks’ side, they kicked off their campaign with three straight wins before falling to Baylor and LA-Monroe in consecutive outings. Since then it’s been four straight wins over New Orleans, Midwestern State, Central Arkansas and Incarnate Word.
In the 83-65 win over the Cardinals on Saturday, Stephen F. Austin’s Calvin Solomon posted 13 points with eight rebounds and one assist. David Kachelries added 12 points with five assists and four boards, while both Cameron Johnson and Charlie Daniels chipped in 11 points apiece.
The Lumberjacks are 6-0 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games. Stephen F. Austin is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Demons are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 Wednesday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The under is 4-1 in Northwestern State’s last five overall and 13-5 in their last 18 road games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Stephen F. Austin here. The Lumberjacks have been really solid against the spread lately, and good at home as well. Stephen F. Austin had six different players with double-digit points in their last game, pouring in 45 points in the first half alone. The Lumberjacks have hit 78 or more points in each of their last four games and if they get off to a quick lead here I don’t see the Demons keeping pace.
