The Hofstra Pride and the James Madison Dukes meet in college basketball action from the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Hofstra Pride will look to build on a 79-74 win over Drexel last time out. Jalen Ray leads Hofstra in scoring with 17.9 PPG with 3.5 APG while Tareq Coburn has 15.4 PPG and Isaac Kante has 13.6 PPG with a team-high 10.2 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Hofstra up to this point in the year, while also leading the Pride on the glass. Kvonn Cramer has 9.2 PPG with 6.6 RPG this season. As a team, Hofstra is averaging 72.8 PPG on 44.2% shooting from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 74% from the foul line while allowing 71.6 PPG on 45.2% shooting from the field and 33.5% from 3-point range this season.
The James Madison Dukes will look to build on a 70-61 win over Elon in their last matchup. Matt Lewis leads the Dukes in scoring and assists with 20.8 PPG and 3.6 APG along with 4.8 RPG while Vado Morse has 13.5 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for JMU coming into this matchup. Julien Wooden and Justin Amadi each have 8+ PPG and 4+ RPG this season. As a team, James Madison is averaging 77.9 PPG on 45% shooting from the field, 34.5% from 3-point range and 65.7% from the foul line while allowing 68.4 PPG on 40.3% shooting from the field and 29% from 3-point range this season.
Hofstra is 39-17-2 ATS in their last 58 road games and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 Saturday games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. James Madison is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games as a home favorite.
I get the case for Hofstra and the free bucket, but the issue that I’m having is that the Pride haven’t been as consistent as we would’ve liked this year compared to the money machine that we had last season with Hofstra. That new title is with James Madison who has been playing solid on both ends of the floor and I see no reason to go astray from that here. Give me James Madison in this spot.
