The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Walkup Skydome. CSU Bakersfield is sitting at 1-1 so far and coming off a win over Life Pacific. As for Northern Arizona, they’re 1-2 after three games. Cal State Bakersfield got an unenviable draw in their opener against UCLA and really had no chance at keeping up. The Roadrunners were down 47-19 at halftime and ultimately lost 95-58. Justin McCall was the team’s top scorer with 11 points and two boards.
In game two, the Roadrunners had a more favorable matchup and played accordingly against Life Pacific. CSU Bakersfield turned a 43-30 halftime advantage into an 85-60 affair for their first win of the year. Kaleb Higgins was the lead scorer this time with 17 points and three assists.
Over on the Northern Arizona side, they started the year with a pair of tough matchups. First came Arizona, and the Lumberjacks ultimately fell 81-52 in a blowout. Game two was against Washington and that one turned into a 73-62 loss.
Northern Arizona got their first win in game three against Benedictine AZ. The Lumberjacks were up 51-23 at the break and cruised to a 97-48 victory. Nik Mains put up 20 points with two rebounds and one assist, and Carson Towt doubled up on 12 points and 12 boards.
Northern AZ is 0-5 ATS in their last five as a home favorite and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 at home. The under is 4-1 in the Lumberjacks’ last five Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. CSUB is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Cal State Bakersfield, but like many other Thursday games I’m probably not going near it. All in all, this should be a good matchup—it’s comparable for both teams and should give us a lot of information. Both squads are coming off relative cupcake matchups where they played well: CSU Bakersfield shot 50.0 percent against Life Pacific and Northern Arizona shot 49.3 percent versus Benedictine AZ. There’s really no telling what will happen here; I think it’ll be close most of the way with CSUB eking into a late cover.
