The Cal State Northridge Matadors and the North Dakota State Bison meet Friday in college basketball action from Scheels Center. CSU Northridge lost three straight to USC, Notre Dame and Eastern Washington to start the year. Three wins over Dixie State, St. Katherine and San Diego came after that, then a couple of losses to Fresno State and Boise State.
In the Boise State game, CSU Northridge fell behind 38-21 at halftime and didn’t get any closer in an eventual 74-48 blowout loss. Top scorer Onyi Eyisi finished on 12 points, six rebounds, one steal and one block in 24 minutes of work.
Over on the North Dakota State side, they beat Concordia College (MN) and Cal Poly in their first two games this year, then lost to UNLV and Arizona. The Bison have gone 3-2 since then with losses to Creighton and Montana State.
The Bison couldn’t find much offense against Montana State, and they fell behind 36-24 at the break in an eventual 68-49 loss. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Jarius Cook with 17 points, four rebounds and one assist.
The Bison are 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven at home and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 5-2 in North Dakota State’s last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Matadors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss. The under is 4-0 in CSUN’s last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on North Dakota State here, but probably staying away. The Bison really need a bounce-back game after a rough outing against Montana State. ND State shot just 33.3 percent from the floor with 3-of-12 from 3-point range and 16 turnovers. The Bison have been at 55 points or lower in two of their last three, so they’re certainly going to need to turn up the offense. CSU Northridge hasn’t been great on the scoreboard themselves lately (56 or fewer in three straight) so this one could go a lot of different ways.
