Charlotte vs Maryland-Eastern Shore 12/20/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks and the Charlotte 49ers meet Monday in college basketball action from Halton Arena. Maryland Eastern Shore is 5-5 on the year and coming off a win over St. Mary’s MD. Maryland Eastern Shore went just 2-5 over their first seven games, falling to Saint Joseph’s, Temple, Campbell, Liberty and UConn along the way. Since then the Hawks have won three straight over Lehigh, Summit and St. Mary’s MD. 

In the matchup versus St. Mary’s MD, the Hawks jumped out to a 40-19 lead at halftime. MD Eastern Shore cruised from there to a 79-43 victory. Leading scorer Nathaniel Pollard put up 16 points with eight rebounds.

Over on the 49ers’ side, they won their first three games this season before losing three striahg to Toledo, Drexel and Davidson. Charlotte is 2-2 since then with wins over George Washington and Valparaiso mixed with losses to Arkansas and Wake Forest. 

Matched up against Wake Forest back on Friday, the 49ers were down 48-34 at halftime. Charlotte surged on a 45-34 run from there but couldn’t come back in an 82-79 defeat. Jahmir Young was tops on 27 points with nine rebounds and four assists. 

Charlotte is 2-6 ATS in their last eight at home and 5-1 ATS in the last six Monday games. The 49ers are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 overall. 

Meanwhile, the Hawks are 7-0 ATS in their last seven road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Monday games. The over is 4-1 in MD Eastern Shore’s last five overall. 

PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Charlotte here. We should have a pretty interesting matchup on our hands regardless, though. The 49ers have been all over the place this year, but when they’re on point against a comparable opponent Charlotte can score pretty well. The 49ers have hit 66 or more points in each of their last four games, and they’ve faced a couple of tough opponents in that time. 

As for MD Eastern Shore, they’ve scored 79 or more in each of their last three and should be able to put up a decent total here as well. Should be a fun game to watch, but I like Charlotte a little better cover-wise.
