East Tennessee State vs Western Carolina 1/10/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Western Carolina Catamounts and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers meet Monday in college basketball action from Freedom Hall Civic Center. Western Carolina sits at 7-8 so far this year. The Catamounts are coming off a loss to Samford. As for East Tennessee State, they’re 9-7 and coming off a loss to Wofford. Western Carolina started out the year on a 6-4 clip, losing to Wake Forest, East Carolina, UMBC and Gardner-Webb along the way. The Catamounts have since gone just 1-4 however, falling to UNC Asheville, Georgia, Charlotte and Samford. 

In the Samford game, the Catamounts were down 51-35 at halftime and didn’t get any closer in an 85-60 blowout loss. Nick Robinson led the team on his 15 points and four rebounds, while Joe Petrakis put up 11 points and two boards. 

Over on the East Tennessee State side, they went 7-3 over their first 10 games with losses to only App State, Tennessee and UAB. It’s been a 2-4 run since then as the Bucs fell to NC A&T, UNC Asheville, Chattanooga and Wofford. 

In the Wofford game, East Tennessee State was within three points at the break but ultimately couldn’t keep up in a 68-57 loss. Leading scorer David Sloan put pu 24 points and four rebounds. Ledarrius Brewer posted 18 points and five boards. 

ETSU is 2-6 ATS in their last eight at home and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. The under is 7-3 in the Bucs’ last 10 at home. 

Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 8-17 ATS in their last 25 road games and 4-9-1 ATS in the last 14 after an ATS loss. The over is 35-16 in Western Carolina’s last 51 road games. 

PICK: I’m probably taking a stab on Western Carolina here. That said, the Catamounts are coming off a pretty flat game against a good Samford team. Western Carolina had been scoring well prior to that however, with 72 or more points in seven straight games. 

As for East Tennessee State, they’ve had a few solid outings themselves lately but have been quite choppy when it comes to putting up points. This should be a pretty interesting matchup, but I think Western Carolina can hang in there and cover.
