The Rhode Island Rams and the UMass Minutemen meet Saturday in college basketball action from Mullins Center. Rhode Island is 10-4 this year. The Rams beat Saint Joseph’s in their last game. As for UMass, they’re sitting at 7-8 overall and lost to Davidson in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Rhode Island managed a 6-3 run over their first nine games this year, falling to Tulsa, Florida Gulf Coast and Providence along the way. It’s been a 4-1 run for the Rams since then with wins over Sacred Heart, Milwaukee, AIC and Saint Joseph’s.

Matched up against Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday, the Rams posted a 43-37 advantage in the first half and cruised to the 75-64 win. Leading scorer Makhel Mitchell put up 15 points with six rebounds, and Jeremy Sheppard added 13 points with six assists.

Over on the UMass side, they got off to a pretty decent start at 6-3 through the first nine games this year. The Minutemen have been on a 1-5 skid since then however, featuring losses to Northeastern, North Texas, Richmond, Duquesne and Davidson.

In the Davidson game on Tuesday, the Minutemen held a slim 32-31 advantage at halftime. UMass fell behind on a 46-35 run from there and lost 77-67. TJ Weeks led the way on 21 points with seven rebounds, while Noah Fernandez added 19 points with nine assists.

The Minutemen are 25-8-1 ATS in their last 34 at home and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. UMass is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 2-5 ATS in the last seven Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall. The over is 4-1 in Rhode Island’s last five Saturday games.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Rhode Island here. The Rams took a rough 72-68 loss to Davidson back on January 8, but otherwise things have gone quite smoothly in the last five games. Rhode Island has hit 70 or more points in each of their last four wins and they’re looking more confident in comparable matchups.

As for UMass, they’ve had some late-game trouble over their last few outings and have given up 77 or more points in each of those games. There should be plenty of opportunities for the Rams to score here if they’re on point.
