The Boise State Broncos and the Fresno State Bulldogs meet Friday in college basketball action from Save Mart Center. Boise State is currently 16-4 this year. The Broncos beat Wyoming in their last game. As for Fresno State, they’re sitting at 14-5 and coming off a win over New Mexico. Boise State lost four of their first seven games to UC Irvine, St. Bonaventure, CSU Bakersfield and Saint Louis. Since then it’s been 13 straight wins for the Broncos. They’ve taken out Utah State, San Diego State and Wyoming in their last trio.
In the Wyoming game on Tuesday, Boise State posted a 30-24 edge in the first half and was able to hang on for the 65-62 win. Leading the scoring was Abu Kigab with 18 points, two rebounds, five assists and a steal.
Over on the Fresno State side, they started the year at 10-4 with losses to California, San Francisco, Utah and Boise State mixed in. The Bulldogs are 4-1 in their last five with victories versus San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and New Mexico.
Matched up against New Mexico on Tuesday, the Bulldogs were up 41-26 at the break. Fresno State was outscored 34-24 from there but still stuck around for the 65-60 victory. Anthony Holland was Fresno State’s lead scorer on 22 points and eight boards.
The Bulldogs are 8-0 ATS in the last eight at home and 4-1 ATS in the last five Friday games. Fresno State is 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 overall.
Meanwhile, the Broncos are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 overall and 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games. The under is 5-0 in Boise’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Fresno State here. The last time these teams met up back on December 28, the Broncos took a 65-55 win. Boise State shot a hot 55.6 percent from the field in that one, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 33-20.
Fresno State has been on a solid run since then, and they’ve kept opponents at 68 points or below in four of their last five. This one’s probably going to be another lower-scoring battle, but I think Fresno State will be able to make a good showing of it and cover/win. Should be a fun one.
