The Columbia Lions and the Cornell Big Red meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Newman Arena. Columbia is 4-16 this year so far. The Lions lost to Princeton in their last outing. As for Cornell, they’re sitting at 12-7 and coming off a loss to Penn. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Columbia started out the year at 2-2, but hasn’t gotten near .500 (or won consecutive games) since then. The Lions are currently on a six-game losing streak to Harvard, Brown, Yale, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania and Princeton.

In the Princeton matchup, the Lions fell behind 30-46 by halftime and didn’t get any closer in an eventual 85-63 defeat. Tops in scoring was Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa with 15 points and five boards. Liam Murphy added 14 points with 11 rebounds.
Over on the Cornell side, they managed an 8-1 run in their first nine games this year, then hit a 1-5 stretch. After wins over Harvard, Brown and Princeton, Cornell lost their last game to Pennsylvania back on Saturday.

In the Quakers matchup over the weekend, the Red scored just 22 points in the first half. Cornell got better from there but still lost 73-68. Chris Manon was the top scorer with his 20 points, and Dean Noll chipped in 19 points with four steals.

The Red are 6-1 ATS in the last seven at home and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 Wednesday games. Cornell is 6-1 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Columbia is 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Cornell in this one. the Red posted a bad first half in their Saturday game and couldn’t recover, but they’d been playing pretty well in the three games prior. Cornell had hit 74 points in each of those games and tend to score pretty well  this year when the matchup is right. As for Columbia, they’ve been at 66 points or fewer in each of their last three games and I don’t think they’ve got the gas to keep up in this one.
