Clemson vs Notre Dame 2/12/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Clemson Tigers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Littlejohn Coliseum. Notre Dame currently sits at 17-7 so far. The Irish beat Louisville in their last appearance. As for Clemson, they’re coming off a Thursday game versus Duke. In that one, the Tigers lost by 18 points. Notre Dame stumbled in their first nine outings this year and came up with a sketchy 4-5 record. The Irish have gone on a 13-2 run since then, however. Over the last three games Notre Dame has beaten Miami, NC State and Louisville in succession. 

Matched up against Louisville on Wednesday, the Irish powered out a 35-23 halftime edge. Notre Dame was able to hang on for the 63-57 win from there. Top scorer Paul Atkinson doubled up on 17 points, 15 rebounds and a steal. 

Over on the Clemson side, they posted a 9-4 run out of the gate this year but things have gotten tougher since then. The Tigers hit a 3-7 stretch in the new calendar year, beating only NC State, Pittsburgh and Florida State along the way. 

On Thursday versus Duke, the Tigers were outscored 27-38 by halftime and 37-44 from there in an eventual 82-64 loss. Clemson’s leading scorer was PJ Hall on 17 points. Both Chase Hunter and Naz Bohannon added 13 points apiece as well. 

The Tigers are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 at home and the over is 11-2 in their last 13 at home. The under is 4-1 in Clemson’s last five Saturday games. 

Meanwhile, the Irish are 5-1 ATS in the last six road games and 5-0 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The over is 4-1 in Notre Dame’s last five Saturday games. 

PICK: I’m going to try Notre Dame here. The Irish have gotten into a nice groove over this 13-2 stretch, and they’re playing solid defense these days. Notre Dame has allowed 65 points or fewer in each of their last six outings and while the offense hasn’t been stellar, it’s been respectable. 

The last time these teams met up back on January 12, Notre Dame rolled with a 72-56 blowout win at home. Clemson generally scores pretty well in the comfortable atmosphere of Littlejohn Coliseum this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see both teams above 70 points in this one. Overall I think Notre Dame has the better shot at a cover, though.
