Montana State vs Southern Utah 3/1/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds and the Montana State Bobcats meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Worthington Arena. Southern Utah sits at 18-9 on the season. The Thunderbirds beat Montana in their last game. As for Montana State, they’re 21-7 overall and coming off a loss to Montana. Southern Utah began the season on a 1-3 run, but they’ve only lost consecutive games once since then. The Thunderbirds are 2-2 in their last four with losses to Northern Colorado and Montana State before wins over Northern Arizona and Montana. 

On Thursday versus Montana, the Thunderbirds were drilled 28-44 in the first half. Southern Utah surged on a 54-30 run from there on the way to an 82-74 victory. John Knight was the lead scorer with 15 points and 14 rebounds. 

Over on the Montana State side, they similarly started out a 1-3 this year but haven’t lost consecutive games since. The Bobcats are stumbling on a 1-2 run in their last three, though; they’ve fallen to Eastern Washington and Montana in that time. 

Back on Sunday versus Montana, the Bobcats trailed by 11 points at halftime. Montana State scored 41 points from there but couldn’t catch up in an 80-74 loss. Xavier Bishop led the team on his 27 points and four assists in 40 minutes. 

The Bobcats are 0-4 ATS in their last four at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Montana State is 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 overall and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games. Southern Utah is 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Montana State. The Bobcats had a rough first half in the Montana game in their latest loss, and fell by just two to Eastern Washington a couple of games prior. The 1-2 run at least marked the end of an eight-game stretch that featured six road appearances. Outside of that, Montana State has done well lately. The Bobcats won the last time these teams met up, 76-71 on the road back on February 19. 

As for Southern Utah, they’ve scored very well over the last four games and should be able to put up quite a fight in this rematch. All things considered though, Montana State should have the inside track on a cover.
