Houston vs Temple 3/3/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Temple Owls and the Houston Cougars meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hofheinz Pavilion. Temple is sitting at 16-10 overall and took out Tulane in their last game. As for Houston, they’re coming off a Tuesday game versus Cincinnati. In that one, the Cougars managed an 18-point win. Temple has generally bounced back from adversity well this year outside of a few rough spots. The Owls have managed a 3-3 record over the last six games. The losses were versus South Florida, Tulane and Memphis; the wins in that time have been versus SMU, Cincinnati and Tulane. 

In the Tulane game on Sunday, the Owls were down 29-31 at the break. Temple bounced back on a 46-39 second-half run in a 75-70 victory. Tops in scoring was Damian Dunn on 19 points, four rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes of work. 

Over on the Houston side, they opened up the year at 20-2 before taking consecutive losses to SMU and Memphis. After that came a win streak for the Cougars with victories versus Wichita State, UCF, Tulane and SMU. 

On Tuesday versus Cincinnati, the Cougars were up by four points going into the second half. Houston posted a 33-19 run from there in a 71-53 victory. Tops in scoring was Fabian White, doubling on 28 points and 10 boards. 

The Cougars are 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 4-0 in Houston’s last four home games. 

Meanwhile, the Owls are 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 overall. Temple is 20-8 ATS in their last 28 Thursday games.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Temple here. The Owls have been pretty erratic when it comes to wins and losses lately, but generally they’re staying competitive against some tricky teams. Temple stayed with Houston the last time these teams met up, eventually falling 66-61 at home back on January 2. 

As for the Cougars, they’re on a great run during this five-game win streak, scoring 70 or more in each game. Houston will be a tough customer, but I think Temple can stay in the game well enough to cover.
