Northern Iowa won their opener versus Wartburg 105-49, then began a losing streak. The Panthers lost their next three outings versus Richmond, San Francisco and Grand Canyon.

In Saturday’s matchup versus Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa posted a one-point edge going into the second half. The Panthers scored 51 more points from there in an 83-76 win. Tops in scoring was Bowen Born with 30 points and four assists.

Over on the Braves’ side, they went 3-1 over their first four games this year with wins over UW-Parkside, Eastern Michigan and Southeast Missouri State. Bradley lost the next pair to Auburn and Liberty.

Matched up against Merrimack over the weekend, Bradley jumped out to a 39-20 edge by halftime. The Braves hit a 44-21 run in the second half for the 83-41 win. Malevy Leons doubled up to lead the team on 32 points and 10 rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Bradley. The Braves really needed a good showing after consecutive losses, and they got it with their blowout win over a not-so-good Merrimack team over the weekend. Bradley shot 56.6 percent from the field with 50 rebounds and 23 team assists in the rout. It’ll be interesting to see how the Braves fare against Northern Iowa, who is coming off a solid victory versus Northern Illinois. All things considered though, I don’t think the Panthers will keep pace.
